However, after a great deal of soul searching and conversations with my family, I have come to the conclusion that while I still very much want to be Portland’s next mayor and still believe I would be excellent at the job, pursuing this position is not the right choice for me at this time.
And so, I am withdrawing from the race for mayor, effective immediately.
To everyone who has encouraged and backed me along the way, your support has been astounding. I will not forget it. And though I am withdrawing from the mayoral race, I will, of course, continue to serve the constituents of District One and remain engaged in helping to shape Portland’s future.
I wish the best of luck to the candidates who remain in the race. And to the two other councilors running for mayor, who happen to sit to my left and my right on the dais: I know we would have remained trusted colleagues and friends throughout this process, no matter the outcome. Thank you for your camaraderie, your service on the council, and your integrity.
Best,
